Changing the Rules

Change

There may be some things that you don’t like about the various rules and regulations that apply to living in Wilderness Rim Divisions 1, 2, or 3 and being a member of Wilderness Rim Association (WRA).  Methods are provided to change virtually any of them.  Some, of course, are easier to change than others.

  1. The Plat Restrictions (recorded in the Plat Book) may only be changed by consent of all members of WRA, followed by approval of the Metropolitan King County Council.
  2. The Declaration of Covenants, Conditions, and Restrictions (CC&Rs) may be changed by a petition signed by a majority of all owners of all lots in Wilderness Rim (670 lots = 336 notarized membership signatures and must include all members of lot if property is owned jointly).
  3. The Articles of Incorporation may be changed by a vote of two-thirds of the voting membership at any regular or special membership meeting of WRA. Such amendments must be filed with the Secretary of State.
  4. The Bylaws may be changed by a vote of two-thirds of the voting membership at any regular or special membership meeting.
  5. The Code of King County may be changed by a majority vote of the Metropolitan King County Council and signature by the County Executive.
  6. Applicable Washington State Laws may be changed by a majority vote in both houses of the Washington State Legislature and signature by the Governor.

No Shooting

Wilderness Rim is designated a no shooting zone by King County and hunting is prohibited. At the September Board meeting, the trustees made it part of WRA’s regulations that all corporate properties are off limits to hunting and to the discharge of any firearms or the use of bows and arrows. This restriction was effective immediately and covers all community areas including Cascade Park and the Greenbelt.

Bear Sightings and Washington Law

Please remember to secure your garbage cans, be watchful of your children, and do not approach or feed any bear. If you see a bear in Wilderness Rim, first call 911 to report the sighting and then contact the WRA Office.  The 911 dispatcher will notify both the Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Fish and Wildlife.  Please review Washington State Law RCW 77.15.790 regarding attracting large wild carnivores and see http://wdfw.wa.gov/living/bears.html  and http://westernwildlife.org/black-bear-outreach-project/biology-behavior-3/ for learning more about life with bears.

Security Patrol—What You’re Paying For

Due to continued King County budget constraints, KC Sheriff’s Deputies are frequently unable to respond or provide the police coverage that Wilderness Rim residents request. Through a special assessment and private contract, WRA hires three off-duty King County Sheriff’s Deputies to make random patrols in Wilderness Rim. This year the unused portion of the fund is being used to pay for coverage for July through September.

The Security Assessment remains at $40 per lot if approved by the membership in September. This amount will be billed to the members with the September billing and covers the months of October 2015 through September 2016. Questions may be directed to Safety@WildernessRim.org.
